Mudder's Milk from Firefly | How to Drink: Firefly is a beloved cult hit of a show that got murdered by Fox, but today I recreate Mudder’s Milk from episode 7, Jayne’s Town. Keep Flying, Browncoats.
Firefly is a Space-Western that ran from 2002-2003 and boasts a die hard fanbase called “Browncoats”. Episode 7 of the one and only season of the series takes us to Higgin’s Moon in the Canton system, where folks are mudders. That’s right, they dig mud for a living to make hyper strong ceramics… it’s a living. The hardy folk of Higgin’s moon subsist largely on something called Mudder’s Milk: “All the protein carbs and vitamins of your mother’s best turkey dinner, plus 15% alcohol”. This episode brings us to Jayne’s home town, where he’s expecting to find himself a wanted / hated outlaw, instead discovers himself to be a folk hero of great renown, complete with his own theme song.
