It is time for fightback for both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as both the teams will be keen to pick up their first win in IPL 2020. The Sunrisers Hyderabad team management would be more under pressure after their middle-order batting woes getting exposed in the first match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, the Kolkata Knight Riders also have some things to sort out from their big loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the previous match.
The Hyderabad side have many things to plan before the start of their second match of the tournament especially after their middle-order collapse from 121 for 2, they slipped to 153 all out. This was majorly due to the inexperience in the batting with the likes of Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma. Their bowling also looked out of form with both the specialist bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan ending up wicketless in the first match. With Mitchell Marsh getting ruled out of the tournament, they need to find a way to fit in one of Kane Williamson or Mohammad Nabi.
On the other hand, majority of the KKR batters looked out of form and rhythm in the first game which is an issue they need to figure out very soon. The decision to bat captain Dinesh Karthik at number three looked very much interesting and reasonable as it adds stability to the explosive batting line-up. Other than Shivam Mavi, their bowling also lacked depth and consistency with Pat Cummins, Sandeep Warrier and Kuldeep Yadav ending with pretty expensive figures. The KKR team management would surely want their batting as well as bowling to come into action collectively.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have a forced change with Mitchell Marsh getting ruled out of the tournament. Although, Jason Holder has been drafted as the replacement, but either of Nabi or Williamson should walk into the eleven to add stability. Nabi’s addition also strengthens the spin department alongside Rashid Khan and Abhishek Sharma.
KKR are unlikely to make any changes to their playing eleven from the first game despite losing the match. Also, a lot of tinkering with the playing combination could reunite the bitter memories of last season which they wouldn’t want to remember. More importantly, it will also affect the confidence of the players if they are benched after just one poor game.
